Good Afternoon! Gena’s post about a banana-less smoothie on Choosing Raw yesterday got me inspired to make a banana-less smoothie of my own. As I have mentioned before, I am about to do a cleanse starting Monday. Part of the cleanse involves omitting sugar completely and another part allows low-glycemic fruit.
As someone who doesn’t ever make smoothies without a banana, I was worried about going smoothie-less for 10 days. Well, worry no more…as Gena proved, using avocado in a smoothie still has the same desired – if not a little different – creamy effect as a banana. I decided to make a smoothie version of my new favorite green juice and I do believe it turned out quite well.
Creamy Green Lemonade Smoothie
Ingredients
- 2 handfuls of red leaf lettuce (or lettuce of your choice)
- 2 handfuls of spinach
- 1/2 cucumber, peeled
- 1 whole lemon, peeled (or more depending on how you like it)
- 1 ripe pear (or green apple)
- Water, as needed
- Ice
- 1/2 avocado
Directions
Blend all ingredients except avocado until smooth. Add in avocado at the very end and let run until just blended.
Cheers to a very green, low-glycemic treat.
